Cambodia Welcomes Malaysia’s Initiative for a Ceasefire Tonight
AKP Phnom Penh, December 13, 2025 -- Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia welcomed Malaysia’s initiative for a ceasefire tonight, according to his message released on his social media this afternoon.
“Cambodia welcomes and supports the initiative of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia for a ceasefire tonight, which will be monitored by ASEAN Observation Team (AOT) with participation of the United States,” he said.
This message was released, after H.E. Anwar Ibrahim shared on his Facebook page about his discussion with U.S. President Honorable Donald J. Trump and his separate calls with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia.
According to H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, during these exchanges, he conveyed Malaysia’s deep concern over the situation and urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint, cease all forms of hostilities and refrain from any further military actions, including the use of force or forward movement of armed units, with effect from Dec. 13, 2025 at 22:00 (UTC+7).
To support de-escalation and promote transparency, he has requested the deployment of the AOT, led by the Malaysian Chief of Defence Forces, to monitor developments on the ground. This mission will be complemented by satellite monitoring capabilities provided by the United States Government, commencing at the same time.
Findings from the satellite monitoring and field observations will be compiled by the AOT and presented at an ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The report will provide an objective account of the situation, including the positions of both parties, in the interest of accountability, confidence-building and the preservation of peace and stability in the region.
“Malaysia remains committed to working closely with ASEAN partners and the international community to ensure that dialogue, restraint and diplomacy prevail,” he underlined.
