Cambodia, U.S. Mark 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations
AKP Phnom Penh, December 09, 2025 --
The Kingdom of Cambodia and the United States celebrated on Dec. 8 the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, marking a significant milestone in their continuing partnership.
The event was held at Kravan Temple in Siem Reap province to reflect on the achievements of bilateral historic partnership and celebrate the strength of present relationship, including initiatives to support and preserve Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage, the U.S. embassy said in a statement.
H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, joined Ms. Bridgette Walker, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, for the occasion, alongside representatives from the World Monuments Fund, National Authority for Preah Vihear, National APSARA Authority, and National Authority for Sambor Prei Kuk.
The reception highlighted the enduring people-to-people ties that have flourished over 75 years and the U.S. commitment to cultural heritage preservation, including repatriating looted artifacts back to Cambodia.
The United States is proud to have contributed over US$6 million to support the preservation of Cambodia’s cultural treasures, from the majestic temples of Angkor to the vibrant traditions of dance and music, the embassy said.
“The preservation of Angkor, Preah Vihear, and other historic sites is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together. These monuments stand as symbols of Cambodia’s identity and it is through the U.S.-Cambodia friendship that we commit to protect the treasures of the past for the benefit of all, including the thousands of American tourists that visit Siem Reap every year,” underlined Chargé d'Affaires Walker.
The reception underscored the U.S. dedication to supporting Cambodia’s ongoing development and prosperity in the northern provinces.
“We will continue to work together to build a future of shared prosperity, peace, and progress—one that honours the past and inspires generations to come,” read the statement.
