UNICEF Cambodia is closely monitoring the Cambodia-Thailand border situation and working with the authorities to assess needs and provide essential support to affected families and children, said Dr. Will Parks, UNICEF Cambodia Representative, this afternoon.

“Children must be protected at all times, and their safety and well-being must be prioritised,” he emphasised.

According to reports from the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, Thai forces have carried out attacks in An Ses, Tamone Thom Temple, the Preah Vihear Temple area, 5 Makara, Chamkar Chek, Mom Bei, Phnom Khmoach, Kaul 8, Ta Krabei Temple, and Khnar Temple, as well as on civilians in Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.

At a press briefing this evening, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, confirmed that Thailand’s aggressive attacks, which began early this morning, were continuing.

As a result of the escalating hostilities, thousands of families have fled their homes, while about 377 schools across four provinces bordering Thailand have been closed, disrupting the education of around 78,600 students and 3,197 teachers.
