ICRC to Continue Monitoring Well-Being of Cambodian Soldiers in Thai Custody

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue monitoring the well-being of the Cambodian soldiers currently held in Thai custody and to work with all relevant parties on the issue.
The assurance was given by Mr. Gilles Carbonnier, ICRC Vice President, during his meeting with H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), in Geneva, Switzerland, on Dec. 1, on the sidelines of the Twenty-Second Meeting of the States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
On the occasion, H.E. Ly Thuch expressed his appreciation for the ICRC’s cooperation and support in urging the release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers who were illegally detained by the Thai military.
He also requested that the ICRC continue to follow up on the matter and called on the Thai side to release all Cambodian soldiers as soon as possible so they can reunite with their families.
