Cambodia Prepares for AMRI-18 Chairmanship, Discusses Regional Anti-Fake News Conference with ASEAN Secretariat
AKP Phnom Penh, November 26, 2025 --
Cambodia's Undersecretary of State and Senior Official Responsible for Information, H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida, met with a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Wednesday afternoon to review the Kingdom's extensive preparations for its forthcoming chairmanship of the 18th ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI-18) Meeting.
The talks also focused on the organisation of a major regional conference in Cambodia dedicated to combating misinformation and fake news, an initiative supported by German funding.
During the bilateral discussion, H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida confirmed that Cambodia has initiated comprehensive preparations for its AMRI-18 chairmanship and related meetings scheduled for 2027. This includes finalising administrative and logistical arrangements, document preparation, and the development of substantive agenda items for the ministerial forum.
Mr. Jonathan Tan, representing the ASEAN Secretariat, provided the Cambodian delegation with an update on the progress and support mechanism from Germany to facilitate the planned conference.
This high-level event is tentatively set to be hosted in Cambodia in mid-2026.
The conference's core objective is to significantly boost public awareness regarding the threats posed by fake news and synthetic information, including content rapidly proliferating through advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. It will also serve as a crucial platform to fortify regional cooperation and strategies among ASEAN member states in confronting these evolving and complex information challenges.
