Preah Vihear Province Launches Public Campaign to Combat Misinformation
AKP Phnom Penh, November 26, 2025 --
Authorities in Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province have initiated a public awareness campaign to counter the proliferation of fake news and its potential to disrupt social stability, officials announced Wednesday.
The campaign, titled “Say No to Fake News!”, was launched in Chom Khsan district through a collaboration between the Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Information and the Chom Khsan District Administration.
The event garnered participation from senior officials, including District Governor Mr. Chin Khantey and Provincial Director of Information Ms. Hem Sokunpisey, alongside local authorities and youth groups.
In a unified stance, attendees committed to collective action against misinformation and to promoting the ethical and responsible use of social media within their communities.
Director Hem Sokunpisey, addressing the gathering, outlined the campaign’s components, which featured an awareness parade along major district thoroughfares. The initiative is designed to educate the public on the risks associated with unverified information and to underscore the critical need for fact-checking before sharing content online.
“Misinformation poses a direct threat to social harmony, erodes public trust, and can damage personal reputations,” she stated. “We are calling on every citizen to act with greater diligence and responsibility on digital platforms.”
She emphasised that the campaign's core objective is to cultivate a more discerning public and to instill a culture of accountability in online communications. “We urge the public to pause and critically evaluate information before engaging with or disseminating it,” she added.
The initiative represents a targeted component of a wider strategy by Cambodian information authorities at provincial and district levels to address the escalating challenge of digital-age misinformation and to protect national social cohesion.
