Cambodia's Chheu Kach Ba Phnom Region Emerges as a Key Tourism Development Zone
AKP Phnom Penh, November 24, 2025 —
The Chheu Kach Ba Phnom area in Prey Veng province is being developed into a significant tourism destination, driven by coordinated Royal Government efforts to enhance its infrastructure and preserve its historical and natural assets.
The site's growing potential was underscored by H.E. Tep Asnarith, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, made known via social media on Nov. 23. He confirmed that local and provincial authorities are actively expanding and improving infrastructure to accommodate a greater influx of both domestic and international visitors.
Substantial upgrades to the area's landscape, environmental management, and public sanitation have been completed through a collaboration between the Ba Phnom District Authority, the Provincial Administration, and the Provincial Department of Tourism. These initiatives are designed to raise the site's overall quality and service standards to align with the country's broader tourism strategy.
Authorities emphasise a focus on the careful preservation and protection of Chheu Kach Ba Phnom to ensure its long-term sustainability. This development model aims to leverage the site's unique heritage to foster economic diversification, with tourism serving as a primary growth engine. The transformation is expected to elevate the profile of Ba Phnom district and generate new economic opportunities for local communities.
The district of Ba Phnom is historically recognised as a cradle of Khmer culture and spirituality. It is best known for the "Neak Ta Mes" ceremony, a major spiritual event that continues to attract widespread public participation and underscores the region's deep-rooted cultural significance.
