Cambodia Brings Thousands of Jobs to Former Migrant Workers in Border Province
AKP Banteay Meanchey, November 24, 2025 --
The Royal Government of Cambodia has delivered over 6,000 job opportunities directly to former migrant workers in Banteay Meanchey province, part of a strategic initiative to stem outbound labour migration and bolster domestic employment.
The two-day "Job, Social Security and Vocational Training Fair," held on Nov. 22-23 in Mongkul Borei and Preah Netr Preah districts, was organised by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training through the National Employment Agency (NEA).
The event provided returning workers, many of whom had previously sought work in Thailand, with access to local employers at no cost, including complimentary transport, meals, and on-site support services.
“The job fair organised by the Ministry of Labour is extremely beneficial for returning migrant workers,” said Oub Borin, a former migrant worker from Mongkul Borei. “They brought thousands of job opportunities right to our community.”
The initiative aims to create sustainable livelihoods and reduce the economic pressures that drive Cambodians to seek often precarious employment abroad. Attendees received guidance from technical officers to match their skills with vacancies across multiple sectors showcased at the event.
“I am grateful to the Ministry and senior leadership for organising this,” said Chek Roy, a former migrant worker from Preah Netr Preah district, who noted the professionalism and attentive service of the staff.
The high turnout and positive feedback underscore the Royal Government’s focus on decentralising economic opportunity. With a similar fair scheduled for neighbouring Siem Reap province, officials are encouraging other returnees and local job seekers to prepare for the event to secure stable employment closer to home.
