Cambodia, Canada Push for Stronger Partnership

H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met here on Nov. 21 with H.E. Christian DesRoches, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
According to the CDC, the meeting primarily focused on strengthening diplomatic ties, and promoting bilateral economic and investment cooperation in an open and constructive spirit.
During the meeting, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the Ambassador and expressed optimism that he would fulfill his diplomatic mission with high positive outcomes. Concurrently, he highlighted the significant results of the Investment Roadshow recently undertaken by a Cambodian delegation in Canada. This success not only disseminated Cambodia's investment potential but also built a direct bridge connecting the business communities of both countries.
Furthermore, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude for the facilitation and support provided by the Canadian Embassy and the Canadian side, who actively participated in ensuring the smoothness and effectiveness of the aforementioned mission.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister took this opportunity to emphasise Cambodia's unique position as the first country to sign a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States of America. He stated that this agreement provides strategic advantages in enhancing Cambodia's confidence and clarity on the international stage.
In response, H.E. Christian DesRoches expressed keen interest in the Deputy Prime Minister's remarks and demonstrated a firm commitment to actively participate in enhancing Cambodia's image and profile in global stage, particularly concerning the general social environment and the excellence of Cambodia's investment landscape. This is aimed at ensuring Canadian and international investors have a positive and broad perspective on Cambodia's development.
The Ambassador also lauded Cambodia's remarkable progress in the logistics sector, focusing specifically on the achievement of large and brand-new infrastructure such as the Techo International Airport, which serves as a crucial facilitator for international trade and transport.
Both sides also discussed and exchanged views on Cambodia hosting the "6th Edition of the Francophonie Entrepreneur Meeting (REF)" in 2026. In this context, plans to organise supplementary events to further encourage and attract investors from Francophone member countries, as well as the global community, to gain insights into the favorable investment climate in Cambodia were discussed.
The meeting concluded with fruitful outcomes and a mutual agreement to maintain close collaboration to enhance cooperation and sustainable development for both nations.
