Cambodia's Watersports Prowess Takes Centre Stage at Darasakor Beach Tourism Festival
AKP Phnom Penh, November 20, 2025—
The burgeoning strength of Cambodia's watersports sector, particularly in jet ski racing, will be highlighted at the upcoming Darasakor Beach Cambodia Marine Tourism Festival, scheduled for a four-day programme of competition and cultural performances from November 27–30.
The festival, set in the picturesque Darasakor Beach development zone in Koh Sdach commune, Kiri Sakor district, Koh Kong province, has authorized a major jet ski race as one of its headline attractions, reflecting the sport's rapid growth and rising competitiveness within the Kingdom.
Meas Map, Secretary-General of the Cambodia Jet Ski Federation, stated that the inclusion of jet ski racing in such a significant national tourism event underscores the sport’s expanding profile, supported by the Ministry of Tourism. He anticipates top Cambodian jet ski athletes will showcase their skills to large crowds throughout the festival.
“Jet ski racing has long enjoyed international popularity, and Cambodia has significant potential in the sport,” Meas Map noted.
Cambodian athletes have recently demonstrated this potential on the global stage, securing gold, silver, and bronze medals at multiple world-class and international competitions.
The country boasts an elite roster of performers, including champions, alongside several promising rising athletes.
The Federation believes that promoting jet ski sport through major national events such as the River Festival and Sea Festival will help attract both domestic and international tourists while raising awareness of Cambodia’s competitive strengths in watersports.
The Ministry of Tourism is fully sponsoring the Starfish Beach Marine Tourism Festival in collaboration with various partners. The event offers a wide range of activities beyond the jet ski competition, including a half-marathon, cycling race, beach volleyball, Kun Khmer boxing, and public engagement attractions such as a fishing contest.
In a move set to further solidify Cambodia's competitive edge, national champion Saly Oumert recently purchased an 11-hectare plot in Snuol district, Kratie province. The site is currently being developed into a dedicated training facility named the “Ministry of Interior Jet Ski Track.”
This new venue aims to strengthen training for Cambodia’s national jet ski team as they prepare for major championships, including the annual World Jet Ski series, which typically comprises up to four rounds each year. The track’s construction over 2024–2025 demonstrates a significant, private investment in the future success of Cambodian watersports
