Jeju, a Bridge Connecting ASEAN and Korean People
AKP Phnom Penh, November 17, 2025 --
A group of senior journalists from ASEAN member states, including Cambodia, recently visited Jeju, the Republic of Korea’s only special self-governing province, to observe Korea’s efforts to strengthen understanding and cooperation with ASEAN.
H.E. Oh Young-hun, Governor of Jeju, warmly welcomed the media delegation, describing Jeju as a key bridge between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea.
“Jeju has actively strengthened ties with ASEAN nations through various initiatives, serving as a vibrant cultural hub and a link between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea,” he said.
During the programme, ASEAN journalists attended the inauguration of ten new benches along the 19.6-kilometre ASEAN-Korea Olle Trail, witnessed the cultural legacy of the Haenyeo—traditional Korean women divers who collect seafood without oxygen tanks—and took part in the ASEAN-Korea Media Forum.
Jeju has established sister-city relationships with Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, and Siem Reap province, home to the famous Angkor temples, further deepening its connections with ASEAN.
