AKP Phnom Penh, November 16, 2025 -- The Royal Government of Cambodia has distributed emergency humanitarian aid to 500 families displaced by a recent cross-border incident and currently sheltering in a pagoda in northwest Banteay Meanchey province.

The relief effort, authorised by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony, comes in response to a cross-border shooting on Nov. 12 that forced residents of Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages to flee their homes. The incident resulted in one Cambodian civilian death and three injuries.

Banteay Meanchey Provincial Governor H.E. Oum Reatrey oversaw the distribution of aid packages at the Chan Sy Samaky Ratanaram Pagoda safety centre on Saturday. Each family received essential supplies, including 25 kilogrammes of rice, instant noodles, a mosquito net, a blanket, a pillow, clean drinking water, and 100,000 Riel (approximately US$25) in cash.

“This support reflects the Royal Government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of citizens affected by violence and insecurity,” H.E. Governor Oum Reatrey stated during the distribution. He emphasised the Royal Government’s focus on assisting vulnerable communities irrespective of political affiliation.

A representative for the displaced families expressed gratitude for the assistance. “We are truly grateful for the help during this difficult time. This support eases our immediate hardships and shows that the Royal Government has not forgotten us,” the representative said.

The families voiced hope for a swift resolution to the border tensions, allowing for their safe and timely return home. The Royal Government has pledged to continue taking necessary measures to protect citizens in the affected border regions.
