Interior Ministry Slams Misleading Thai Media Reports on Cambodian Casualties
AKP Phnom Penh, November 14, 2025 --
The Ministry of Interior of Cambodia has rejected Thai media reports on Nov. 14 saying that no Cambodian citizen died in the incident which Thai soldiers opened fire on residents of Prey Chan village, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, on Nov. 12, except for the three victims who are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
In a statement issued this evening, the Ministry of Interior clarified that the Thai armed forces opened fire using several rounds from long-barreled M16 rifles on Cambodian citizens in Prey Chan village, resulting in one death and three serious casualties. The deceased victim's name is Dy Nai (known as Sal), male, 36 years old, residing in Prey Chan village.
According to the statement, the results of the autopsy examination by the Cambodian specialised authorities found that: on the head of the deceased, there was an abrasion (laceration) on the facial skin measuring 5 millimetres; on the torso, there was one elongated penetrating wound on the upper left chest, measuring 2 by 3 centimetres, with a trajectory slanted into the torso from left to right; and there was one bullet lodged beneath the skin over the right ribcage on the posterior side. The medical committee surgically removed the bullet in the presence of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). It was clearly observed that there was a bullet, with a diametre of 5.7 millimetres and a length of 23 millimetres. It possessed six helical grooves (rifling) (a right-hand twist).
At the same time, the Ministry added, the investigative committee also found that at the first incident site, three Cambodian civilians were seriously injured at a location about 100 metres away from the area where the Thai armed forces fired their weapons. At the second incident site, the victim who lost his life was found about 180 metres away from the area where the Thai armed forces fired. The Thai armed forces had fired from two positions toward a single target in Prey Chan village.
“In conclusion, the victim named Dy Nai (known as Sal) was indeed killed by the shooting of the Thai armed forces on Nov. 12, 2025 contrary to the distortion of the truth and misrepresentation of the situation reported by the Thai media which aimed to mislead the international community,” read the statement. “The bullet clearly penetrated and pierced the lungs, severed major blood vessels, and a bullet was indeed lodged in the right posterior side of the deceased's body.”
