Cambodia, Brazil Forge Historic Tourism Partnership
AKP Phnom Penh, November 12, 2025 --
In a move to diversify its tourism economy and tap into the lucrative South American market, the Kingdom of Cambodia has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation with the Federative Republic of Brazil.
This marks Cambodia's first-ever tourism agreement with a South American nation.
The agreement was formalised on the sidelines of the 26th UNWTO General Assembly in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The signatories were Cambodian Minister of Tourism, H.E. Huot Hak, and Brazilian Vice Minister of Tourism and UNWTO Executive Secretary, H.E. Ms. Ana Carla Machado Lopes.
The MoU establishes a framework for bilateral cooperation designed to stimulate tourism-related investment and develop high-value, heritage-based tourism products tailored for the Brazilian market. A key objective is to enhance the promotion of Cambodia's tourism potential and investment opportunities, aiming to attract a growing number of visitors and investors from Brazil and the broader South American region.
The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism has identified market diversification as a strategic priority. This partnership with Brazil, a nation of over 200 million people, represents a significant step in reducing reliance on traditional markets and unlocking new sources of tourism growth.
