Cambodia, Morocco Advance Tourism Ties, Eye Direct Flights
AKP Phnom Penh, November 11, 2025––
Morocco's Minister of Tourism, H.E. Fatim-Zahra Ammor, has indicated a notable surge in interest among Moroccan citizens in exploring Cambodia's diverse tourism offerings.
The Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, H.E. Ms. Fatim-Zahra Ammor, shared this observation during a bilateral meeting with her Cambodian counterpart, H.E. Hout Hak, Minister of Tourism, held on the sidelines of the 26th UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly in Riyadh.
The ministers focused their discussion on concrete strategies to strengthen and expand tourism cooperation between the two nations.
Following in-depth exchanges, both officials agreed to prioritise and expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation.
This future agreement is set to formalise collaboration through several key mechanisms: Establishing a joint technical working group; Developing practical action plans; Intensifying tourism promotion activities in both Morocco and Cambodia.
A significant point of discussion was the potential for introducing direct flight connections to substantially boost reciprocal tourism and bilateral travel. This prospect is particularly timely as Cambodia prepares to host the 20th Summit of the Francophonie in November 2026, a major international event where Morocco will also be a participating member.
A senior official from the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism emphasised that the forthcoming MoU represents a strategic opportunity for Cambodia to diversify its tourism markets toward the Middle East region.
Furthermore, it aims to expand the promotion of Cambodian tourism potential, develop new high-value tourism products, and attract investment from the North African Maghreb region—a market of over 40 million people.
Currently, air travel between the two capitals is facilitated by routes connecting Casablanca, Morocco, to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, typically via Istanbul, Türkiye.
