Health Minister Calls for Quality Care to Reach Cambodia's Most Remote Islands
AKP Phnom Penh, November 07, 2025 -- During an unannounced inspection visit to a remote island health facility, H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, emphasised that quality and compassionate healthcare must be accessible to every citizen, regardless of location.
The Minister's inspection took place on Nov. 6 afternoon, the third day of the annual Water Festival Celebration, at the Koh Rong Health Centre off the coast of Preah Sihanouk province.
Minister Chheang Ra observed that the health centre operates 24 hours a day in a clean and hygienic environment, successfully providing attentive examinations and treatment with minimal patient waiting times. The overall quality of care was assessed as satisfactory and improving, a testament to the dedication of the medical staff serving the island's residents.
However, H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra noted a critical area for development: the need to strengthen effective communication, mutual trust, and closer relationships between staff and patients. He stressed that service quality is rooted not only in professional knowledge but equally in compassion and commitment.
The Minister also praised the orderly management and proper arrangement of medical equipment, encouraging the centre’s leadership and staff to continue enhancing their performance, discipline, and focus to further improve service delivery.
In his concluding remarks, H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra reaffirmed the Ministry of Health's commitment: “Even in the country’s most remote island areas, every citizen should have access to quality and compassionate healthcare services.”
Evaluating Koh Rong Health Centre as a well-performing primary healthcare facility, the Minister urged the team to continue implementing Ministry of Health policies to strengthen professional capacity and service quality.
He called upon all health personnel to continue their hard work and dedication, seeing their role in serving the people and “bringing smiles and comfort to the community” as a noble contribution to the nation’s public health mission.
