Cambodia and the United States Set Sights on Deeper Cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has met with H.E. Michael George DeSombre, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, to discuss ways to further advance bilateral cooperation.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the meeting at the Ministry on Nov. 4, both sides agreed that the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Cambodia-U.S. Diplomatic Relations this year, Cambodia's role as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations, and the U.S.' vital role to achieve peace along the Cambodia-Thailand border present timely opportunities to deepen relations and expand cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, defence and security, including combatting and preventing cybercrimes and demining.
The two sides welcomed the signing of the Cambodia-U.S. Agreement on Reciprocal Tariffs (ART) in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, 2025, recognising it as a major milestone in promoting mutual economic opportunities. They underscored the importance of setting practical steps to ensure the effective and timely implementation of the agreement.
Regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia's deep gratitude to President Donald J. Trump for his crucial role in facilitating the ceasefire agreement on July 28, and the signing of the Joint Declaration on peace agreement, in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26.
Both sides exchanged views on the follow-up measures for implementing the commitments outlined in the Joint Declaration and emphasised the need to intensify efforts to restore trust and confidence, in order to achieve lasting peace.
