International Community Applauds Cambodia-Thailand Peace Deal, Calls for Full Implementation

The international community has warmly welcomed the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Peace Deal between Cambodia and Thailand, describing it as a crucial step toward lasting peace and a significant contribution to regional stability.
They also called on both neighbouring nations to fully and effectively implement the landmark agreement.
Many international partners further commended the important roles played by Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair, and the United States in facilitating the Declaration.
UN Secretary-General H.E. António Guterres welcomed the Joint Declaration as a means to consolidate the July ceasefire, and the agreed efforts to relieve the suffering of civilians, including through cooperation on humanitarian demining. He expressed hope that the Declaration would pave the way for sustainable peace.
France particularly welcomed the signing of the Terms of Reference for the ASEAN Observer Team, which will accelerate its deployment on the ground; the commitments by both parties to withdraw heavy weapons from the border and continue mine clearance; and Thailand’s announcement regarding the release of prisoners of war.
“France will closely monitor the effective implementation of these commitments in coordination with its ASEAN partners and the United States, as well as the continued settlement of border disputes between the two parties through dialogue and in accordance with international law,” said the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Japan described this peace accord as tangible and steady progress of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, expressing hope that tensions between the two countries would be eased peacefully through the implementation of this agreement.
The European Union reaffirmed its readiness to support the implementation of the Joint Declaration, including by facilitating demining efforts in the border region.
Hungary expressed hope that the agreement would normalise the border situation and restore peaceful and harmonious lives for the peoples of both nations.
Germany encouraged both Cambodia and Thailand to continue dialogue and cooperation as well as reopen borders and resume trade relations.
Australia, the Republic of Korea, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom also commended the efforts of H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and H.E. Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, in facilitating the signing of the Declaration. They expressed confidence that the Joint Declaration would contribute to promoting peace, stability, and development between the two countries and in the broader region.
The historic Peace Deal was signed by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The signing took place under the witness of H.E. Donald J. Trump and H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Oct. 26.
