Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, held an informal breakfast meeting with Hon. Ms. Márta Mátrai, First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, on Tuesday at the Gerbeaud Café Arany Szalon in Budapest.

During the cordial discussion, both parliamentary leaders reaffirmed the close, reliable, and trusted relations between Cambodia and Hungary, grounded in people-to-people ties and heart-to-heart connections. They expressed confidence that the bonds of friendship will continue to serve as the foundation for deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.

Deputy Speaker Márta Mátrai congratulated Cambodia on the successful Cambodia–Thailand peace agreement, describing it as a significant foundation for long-lasting peace and stability between the two neighbouring countries and in the broader region.

Samdech Khuon Sudary highly valued Hungary’s active role in promoting peace and stability both in Europe and globally, as well as its principled commitment to international law. She emphasised that, as small nations, Cambodia and Hungary share a common vision of upholding international law, fostering peaceful coexistence, and encouraging other countries to respect the rules-based international order.

Both sides underlined the vital role of parliaments in strengthening the economic security of their peoples, which in turn contributes to greater political stability and national resilience.

The discussion took place in a warm and family-like atmosphere, reflecting the enduring friendship and mutual respect that characterise relations between the two nations, parliaments, and peoples of Cambodia and Hungary.

The meeting also recalled Deputy Speaker Márta Mátrai’s official and friendly visit to Cambodia in early 2025, during which she paid a courtesy call on Samdech Khuon Sudary at the National Assembly Palace in Phnom Penh. That visit laid a strong foundation for parliamentary cooperation, mutual understanding, and people-to-people exchanges between the two legislative institutions — a spirit that continues to guide the partnership today.
