Cambodia's Agriculture Minister and WFP Vow to Deepen Cooperation on Food Security and Climate Resilience
AKP Phnom Penh, October 28, 2025 -- Cambodia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Dith Tina, and the World Food Programme (WFP) Country Representative, Kyung-nan Park, met at the ministry's office here yesterday to solidify their commitment to enhancing cooperation on national food security, nutrition, and agricultural climate resilience.
Minister Dith Tina welcomed Ms. Park and emphasised the critical importance of their collaboration in strengthening Cambodia's food systems and improving nutritional outcomes, particularly for children. The discussions focused on reinforcing existing partnerships and exploring new strategies, with a specific goal of enhancing food quality and public nutrition.
The Minister pointed to the success of modern agricultural communities in significantly improving local farmers' access to support. He specifically urged the WFP to partner with the ministry on initiatives designed to build climate resilience among farming communities. This includes developing innovative risk reduction approaches, such as crop insurance and disaster risk reduction programmes, to protect agricultural livelihoods from climate shocks.
Ms. Kyung-nan Park, the Representative and Country Director of the UN World Food Programme in Cambodia, reaffirmed the organisation's unwavering commitment to supporting Cambodia's national development priorities.
She highlighted the WFP's ongoing efforts to deliver impactful nutrition programmes that target vulnerable communities, alongside promoting behavioral changes to advance food security and nutritional awareness across the country.
Both parties expressed strong optimism regarding the potential for expanded cooperation. Their collaborative efforts are set to align closely with Cambodia’s national goals for sustainable agricultural development and improved public health.
The meeting represents a significant step forward in reinforcing partnerships to effectively address pressing food security and nutrition challenges throughout the Kingdom.
