Japan Welcomes Signing of Joint Declaration on Cambodia-Thailand Peace Deal

Japanese Foreign Minister H.E. MOTEGI Toshimitsu this evening issued a statement, welcoming the recent signing of the Joint Declaration on border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand in Malaysia.
“This agreement represents tangible and steady progress of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand,” read the statement. “Japan hopes that tensions between the two countries will be eased peacefully through the implementation of this agreement.”
H.E. MOTEGI Toshimitsu also expressed Japan’s deep respect for the diplomatic efforts of the United States of America and Malaysia, the ASEAN Chair, which have dedicated themselves to confidence-building between the two countries towards this agreement.
The Japanese Foreign Minister underlined that the improvement of the relations between Cambodia and Thailand is indispensable for the stability and development of the entire region. In this regard, the Government of Japan, in coordination with relevant countries, will continue to promote de-escalation of the situation, including the provision of equipment through Official Security Assistance (OSA) to Malaysia which leads ceasefire observer teams , in order to realise medium- to long-term consolidation of peace.
The historic peace deal was signed by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The signing took place under the witness of H.E. Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, and H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chair of the 2025 ASEAN Summits, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Oct. 26.
