Spokesperson: AI Can Greatly Support Journalism, But Content Must Be Verified
AKP Phnom Penh, October 08, 2025 -- Artificial intelligence (AI) can significantly assist journalism, however media practitioners must be carefully verified and double check information before publishing, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information H.E. Tep Asnarith said.
Speaking at the capacity-building workshop on journalism and public communication, held yesterday in Prey Veng province, H.E. Tep Asnarith highlighted that AI serves as a human assistant in various fields — capable of writing, reading articles, translating languages, conducting research, and generating images for media use.
The Spokesperson encouraged media professionals to learn more deeply about AI tools and integrate them effectively into their daily work.
“In today’s fast-evolving technological landscape, especially with AI development, the world has seen how it can serve humanity’s interests,” he said. “I encourage all information officers and journalists to better understand and apply AI responsibly to enhance information management, public communication, and especially combating against fake news.”
The Spokesperson also warned about the misuse of AI, noting that extremist groups have used AI-generated disinformation to create confusion and distort public perception, particularly during the recent Cambodia-Thailand border tensions.
