Cambodia’s 5th Military Region Rejects Claims of Territory Cession to Thailand
AKP Phnom Penh, September 26, 2025 -- The 5th Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces this evening issued a statement rejecting the accusations that the demolition of a house at O’ Phlok Domrei constituted the cession of Cambodian territory to Thailand.
This assertion is completely false and a misrepresentation of the contents of Letter No. 002/2025 dated Sept. 22, 2025, and has no legal basis, underlined the statement, explaining that the task of demarcating borders and placing boundary markers falls under the mandate of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) between Cambodia and Thailand. Additionally, the above-mentioned mandate has also been reaffirmed in the content of the minutes of the 1st Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on Sept. 10, 2025.
The 5th Military Region also emphasised that Cambodia and Thailand have adequate and clear legal frameworks, institutional mechanisms, and technical procedures to address border issues between the two countries. This includes the 1:200,000 scale map based on the 1904 Convention and the 1907 Treaty, as well as 74 mutually agreed and recognised boundary markers. Both Cambodia and Thailand have recognised and reaffirmed these in the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU 2000).
The 5th Military Region reaffirmed its firm position to strongly defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cambodia without compromise, and declared its support for resolving border issues through peaceful means and based on international law.
