UK Ambassador Visits Battambang Limestone Landscape
AKP Phnom Penh, September 19, 2025 -- The conservation organisation Fauna & Flora has expressed its profound pleasure following a visit by the UK Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Dominic Williams, to the Limestone Landscape (Phnom Thmar Kambor) in Banan district, Battambang province, on Sept. 18.
The visit took place as Fauna & Flora prepares to launch a new conservation initiative in the area.
Supported by funding from the UK Government through the Darwin Initiative, Fauna & Flora will work closely with local communities in the Banan Limestone Landscape starting October 2025.
The project will focus on strengthening the capacity and skills of these communities so they can actively participate in protecting and conserving the biodiversity of the limestone hills and caves. A key goal is to ensure the communities can sustainably benefit from this biodiversity for their livelihoods.
Ambassador Williams' visit was aimed at gaining a better understanding of the biodiversity conservation work being carried out in the limestone areas and the economic benefits these resources provide.
In particular, the Ambassador learned about the income local residents receive from harvesting bat guano (fertiliser) from the caves within the Phnom Romsay Sak forest community.
