Acting Head of State Meets a Russian-British Nobel Laureate in Physics

Cambodia’s Acting Head of State, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, received here at the Senate Palace this morning Prof. Konstantin Novoselov, the Russian-British scientist who won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics and currently serves as a professor and researcher at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson for the Senate, Prof. Novoselov expressed his recognition of Cambodia’s growing potential in science and technology. He underlined that his mission is to identify and nurture talented Cambodian youth to become strong human resources in these fields.
The Nobel laureate further revealed his plan to establish a laboratory in Cambodia to create opportunities for young Cambodians to broaden and enhance their scientific and technological skills.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the initiative, stressing that Cambodian youth today are highly capable in science and are working diligently to develop their expertise. He added that Prof. Novoselov’s project would significantly contribute to the Kingdom’s progress in science and technology.
The Acting Head of State encouraged Prof. Novoselov to work closely with relevant ministries, particularly the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, to strengthen opportunities for Cambodian youth in this sector.
During the meeting, Prof. Novoselov also sought to learn more from Samdech Techo about Cambodia’s leadership path from war to peace, national unity, and development.
Samdech Techo briefed him on the country’s transformation, highlighting the implementation of successive strategies, especially the Win-Win Policy, which successfully brought full peace to Cambodia in 1998.
