Spokesperson Denies False Information on Sam Rainsy’s Social Media
AKP Phnom Penh, September 02, 2025 -- The Royal Government Spokesperson has categorically rejected false information posted on the Facebook account of self-exiled opposition figure Sam Rainsy, who accused Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, of involvement with Bangchak, a leading Thai energy conglomerate.
According to the misinformation, Samdech Techo Hun Sen allegedly purchased 24 percent of Bangchak shares worth billions of U.S. dollars through a South African broker, but the Thai Social Security Fund declined to sell them. In a statement released this afternoon, the Spokesperson affirmed that this claim is entirely false.
“The Royal Government Spokesperson would like to inform the public that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, and their families have no connection with the said South African broker and have never purchased shares from any Thai company as alleged,” the statement stressed.
The Spokesperson added that the Facebook account in question routinely disseminates false, fabricated, exaggerated, or distorted information—often copied from unreliable sources—with the malicious intent of discrediting Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, their families, and other senior government officials. Such actions, the statement underlined, are aimed at undermining the popularity of the national leadership, which continues to receive widespread respect and support from the Cambodian people.
The Spokesperson further pointed out that the individual’s actions, especially in recent times, clearly reflect treasonous intent and a deliberate attempt to destroy the nation, earning strong condemnation from Cambodians both at home and abroad.
Nevertheless, the statement continued, this individual persists in spreading falsehoods that threaten national unity.
“The Royal Government Spokesperson would like to emphasise that the Royal Government, led by the Cambodian People’s Party under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, current Prime Minister, has always sacrificed everything for the nation and the people of Cambodia, acting as a strong protective shield whenever the country and its people face difficulties,” the statement concluded.
