Ministry of Women's Affairs Meets with UN Women Regional Director
AKP Phnom Penh, August 26, 2025 -- H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodia's Minister of Women's Affairs, met with Ms. Christine Arab, UN Women Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, on Aug. 25 to discuss ongoing efforts to promote gender equality.
The online meeting focused on Cambodia's progress and achievements within the framework of the United Nations and the Beijing+30 Declaration, which was a key topic at the 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69).
H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi highlighted Cambodia’s strong commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. She emphasised that peace is the fundamental basis for all development, and she shared the country’s successes in gender mainstreaming, boosting women's leadership, protecting women's rights, and combating gender-based violence.
The two officials also explored new areas of cooperation to strengthen the partnership between the Ministry of Women's Affairs and UN Women. Their goal is to accelerate key actions for gender transformation in Cambodia.
Ms. Arab praised Cambodia's remarkable progress and initiatives in promoting gender equality. She encouraged Cambodia to share its experiences and best practices at the 80th United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 22, 2025, particularly its work in advancing gender equality and preventing violence against women.
In response, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi expressed her readiness to prepare case studies and reports on Cambodia's experiences for presentation at the high-level UN event.
