Cambodian Senior Official Shares Insights at 10th FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Mongolia
AKP Phnom Penh, August 26, 2025 --
H.E. CHUM Sounry, Secretary of State for Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), shared some insights at the 10th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (10th FEALAC FMM) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, last week.
According to an MFAIC’s news release issued last night, under Agenda Item 3: “Road to Ulaanbaatar: Reflection on the 25th Anniversary of FEALAC,” H.E. Secretary of State highlighted FEALAC’s achievements over the past 25 years, and called for renewed political will to elevate its global role.
Under Agenda Item 4: “25 Years and Beyond: Vision for East Asia and Latin America,” he outlined Cambodia’s priorities in strengthening trade, investment and tourism; promoting sustainable and inclusive growth; and enhancing FEALAC’s visibility, including through a future Summit and closer engagement with the United Nations.
The future strength of FEALAC depends on vision, structure, commitment, and concrete action, H.E. Chum Sounry stressed.
Before the Ministerial Session, at the 24th Senior Officials’ Meeting, H.E. Secretary of State delivered his intervention on the New FEALAC Action Plan, reaffirming Cambodia’s strong support for the Forum’s future direction. He stressed that “the Plan must remain inclusive, practical, and responsive to the priorities of all members, particularly developing countries.”
The Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) was launched in 1999 as an informal mechanism with the aim to provide greater dialogue opportunities and promote cooperation between Latin America and East Asia.
FEALAC is made up of 36 countries: 20 from Latin America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela); and 16 from East Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, China, Singapore, South Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand).
