Japanese Ambassador Pays Second Visit to Conflict-Affected Border Area, Expresses Deep Concern
AKP Phnom Penh, August 22, 2025 --
H.E. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, has conducted his second visit to the Cambodia-Thailand border area affected by the recent armed clashes, expressing once again his deep concern and sympathy for the affected population.
“Today, I participated in a field visit programme to the border area in Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey provinces, hosted by H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, together with other Ambassadors. This was my second visit to the border area since the outbreak of military clashes in late July,” he shared on the Embassy’s Facebook page this evening.
During the visit, H.E. Ambassador received briefings from officials of the Royal Government of Cambodia and local authorities on the latest border situation, observed the situation on the ground, and witnessed the plight of many people who have yet to resume their normal daily lives, which made him feel heartbroken once again.
“The Japanese government and I myself will continue to make every effort to ensure that the ceasefire becomes more sustainable, that people in the border area can return to peaceful and quiet lives as soon as possible, and that the economic impacts on Cambodia caused by border issues, including on the operations of Japanese companies in Cambodia, are swiftly addressed," he reaffirmed.
