146,720 Candidates to Sit for High School Exam Next Week
AKP Phnom Penh, August 22, 2025 —
A total of 146,720 candidates, including 81,442 female students, will sit for the two-day high school examination scheduled for Aug. 28-29.
The figure was announced by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, at a press conference on Aug. 22.
For both science (over 40,000 candidates) and social science (more than 100,000 candidates) categories, the subjects to be examined on Aug. 28 are geology and environment, history, geography, and foreign languages, while Aug. 29 will cover mathematics, morality and civics, and literature.
“There will be special measures for candidates most affected by displacement from the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand conflict,” said the Minister of Education.
He added that MoEYS has so far allocated one billion Riel (approximately US$250,000) to support displaced students, with contributions from charitable individuals, UNICEF, and NGOs. Additionally, about US$500,000 has been reserved for the reconstruction of school buildings.
On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron also announced that new educational tracks for science, social science, and vocational skills will be introduced for upper secondary students (grades 10–12) in the 2025–2026 academic year. The programme will be piloted in selected high schools with available resources, Community Tech Centres (CTCs), technical training institutes, and locations near special economic zones.
In 2024, 106,351 candidates—representing 79 percent of the 130,000 total—passed the national exam. Among them, 2,216 received grade A, 9,701 earned grade B, 22,675 grade C, 36,683 grade D, and 35,076 grade E.
