Cambodian Royal Armed Forces Reaffirm Commitment to Ceasefire Agreement
AKP Phnom Penh, August 21, 2025 —
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, this afternoon reaffirmed the strong commitment of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) to fully uphold the ceasefire agreement aimed at restoring peace, stability, and normalcy along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
Speaking at a press briefing, the spokesperson noted that the situation along the Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey border areas remains calm, with Cambodian forces strictly observing the ceasefire.
On the matter of Cambodian soldiers unlawfully detained by Thai forces, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata once again urged Thailand to immediately release them so that they may reunite with their families. The soldiers have now been held in Thai custody for 23 days, 8 hours, and 10 minutes as of 4:00 p.m. today, she stressed.
At the same time, Cambodia expressed hope that the Interim ASEAN Observer Team, led by the Malaysian military attachés in Cambodia and Thailand, will operate independently and separately in each country to ensure an impartial monitoring of the ceasefire.
“Cambodia remains committed to working constructively and in close cooperation with Thailand, Malaysia, other ASEAN member states, as well as key partners such as the United States and China, to ensure the effective and full implementation of the ceasefire agreement,” she underlined. “We will continue to seek peaceful solutions to all disputes in line with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.”
