Cambodia, UNESCO Discuss Water Management
AKP Phnom Penh, July 25, 2025 --
UNESCO with its national and regional development partners have been implementing key projects on groundwater management and environmental conservation in Cambodia for water management promotion with sustainability and climate resilience.
The progress was raised by Mr. Sardar Umar Alam, Head of the UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh and UNESCO Representative in Cambodia, while paying a courtesy call on H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, at the office of Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) on July 24.
The UNESCO Representative also praised Cambodia’s development in all domains, particularly MOWRAM for its attainment in water resource sector.
H.E. Thor Chetha underlined the key roles of MOWRAM in water resource development, management, and conservation, along with the control of flash flood and water resources at world heritage site in Siem Reap province.
He further thanked UNESCO for its contribution to the environmental protection, cultural preservation, and socio-economic development of Cambodia so far, mainly its cooperation in world heritage conservation in Siem Reap-Angkor area.
