Tonle Sap Lake, a Major Potential Resource to Attract Tourists
AKP Phnom Penh, July 11, 2025 --
Tonle Sap Lake holds significant potential for the development of community-based tourism and ecotourism, playing a key role in diversifying Cambodia’s tourism products to attract both domestic and international visitors, said H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism.
H.E. Huot Hak, who also serves as Chairman of the National Committee for the Management and Development of Community-Based and Ecotourism, made the remarks while presiding over the opening ceremony of the 2nd Tonle Sap Ecotourism Network Forum 2025, held on July 10 in Siem Reap province under the theme: “Tourism and Ecotourism: the Key Drivers for Economic Development of Community Families and the Sustainable Management of Natural resources in the Tonle Sap Lake Area.”
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the forum is an important annual event that brings together relevant stakeholders from both national and sub-national levels, including representatives from the private sector, development partner institutions, national and international organisations, as well as more than 400 community members.
The forum aimed to promote the development of community-based and ecotourism in the Tonle Sap region through institutional mechanisms under the mandate of the National Committee for the Management and Development of Community-Based and Ecotourism and the Ministry of Tourism—specifically through the Tonle Sap Ecotourism Network, abbreviated in English as “TEN.”
