Tourism Ministry Expresses Deep Regret over Incident with Indonesian Tourist

The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia has issued a public statement expressing deep regret over an incident involving an Indonesian tourist who was questioned regarding documentation by traffic police officers.
In the statement released this afternoon, the Ministry of Tourism also extended sincere thanks to Lieutenant General CHUON Narin, Deputy Commissioner-General and Commissioner of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, for resolving the matter with precision and timeliness.
“In the spirit of strong cooperation and based on the dynamics of stakeholder system, the Tourism Industry Family, call upon everyone to continue promoting the tourism sector and ensuring that Cambodia remains a safe and welcoming destination for both national and international tourists,” underlined the ministry.
Recent reports show that an Indonesian-registered car was stopped at a traffic light in Sangkat Sras Chak, Khan Daun Penh, and questioned for the vehicle documents and other documents.
According to the Information and Quick Reaction Team of the Commissariat of Phnom Penh Municipal Police, nine traffic police officers and contract officers involved in the incident were summoned this morning for a thorough investigation, based on the police's procedures and expertise.
