AKP Phnom Penh, 27, 2025 --
Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, received here on June 27 a courtesy call from H.E. Lyu Yesheng, Member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Leadership Group of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress.
In the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary welcomed the visit as a meaningful contribution to strengthening the ironclad friendship between Cambodia and China, which is built on mutual trust, respect, understanding, and shared interests. She acknowledged the active role of Guangdong Province in advancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
Samdech recalled the historical roots of Cambodia–China friendship, founded during the era of His Majesty the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, President Mao Zedong, and Premier Zhou Enlai.
She noted that the relationship has since grown stronger under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Xi Jinping, and now continues under the stewardship of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
She highlighted that Cambodia and China issued a joint statement on “Building an All-Weather Cambodia–China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era and Implementing the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilisation Initiative” during the current state visit of President Xi Jinping in 2025.
Samdech also expressed support for China’s Vision 2049, which aspires to build a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, and harmonious, underscoring Cambodia’s alignment with this long-term vision of peace, prosperity, and shared development.
She emphasised the longstanding ties between the two countries, noting that the success of China is also the success of Cambodia.
She added that both countries adopted the Diamond Cooperation Framework in 2023, focusing on six priority areas: political cooperation, production capacity and quality, agriculture, energy, security, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides reaffirmed their ironclad friendship, highlighting 2025 as a special year dedicated to promoting tourism between the two nations, which will further deepen people-to-people ties and strengthen comprehensive cooperation.
For his part, H.E. Lyu Yesheng conveyed warm greetings from the leadership of Guangdong and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet with Samdech Khuon Sudary.
He reaffirmed Guangdong’s commitment to supporting Cambodia in areas of mutual interest, including trade, education, governance, infrastructure, and agriculture.
He noted that economic cooperation between Cambodia and Guangdong has seen significant progress, with investment from Guangdong growing by approximately 30 percent in the past year.
He highlighted the establishment of a production base in Preah Sihanouk province by BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, along with Chinese tyre factories and construction companies.
Samdech Khuon Sudary praised Guangdong’s achievements in reform and innovation, recognising the province’s pioneering role in China’s economic transformation and its contributions to broader regional growth.
Both sides expressed commitment to deepening cooperation not only in trade and investment but also in education, health, and human resource development.
Samdech underscored that such cooperation would directly support Cambodia’s development goals of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.
As part of the visit, H.E. Lyu Yesheng extended an invitation for Samdech Khuon Sudary to lead a delegation from the Cambodian National Assembly to Guangdong Province at a mutually convenient time.
Samdech accepted the invitation with appreciation and reaffirmed her support for strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people ties between Cambodia and China.
