Senate President: Cambodia and Thailand Should Pursue a Win-Win Approach
AKP Phnom Penh, June 27, 2025 --
Cambodian Senate President Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has emphasised the need for Cambodia and Thailand to adopt a win-win approach in addressing bilateral issues, for the mutual benefit of both nations.
“We should play a win-win game, but what Thailand has done so far is a lose-lose,” said Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen with disappointment, during a gathering with local council members in Preah Vihear province this morning.
“The Thai people are not our enemies, and I believe they also want Cambodia as a friend. Trade and cooperation with neighboring countries bring mutual benefits. If we choose a win-win path, everyone will gain. Cambodia may have a population of just 17 million, but its purchasing power is strong,” he stressed.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm position on the ongoing border checkpoint closures, stating that the party who closed the border unilaterally can also reopen it unilaterally—there is no need for negotiation on that matter.
He also reiterated Cambodia’s long-standing goals: to transform former battlefields into zones of development and to turn the borders with all neighbouring countries into frontiers of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.
“Cambodia is ready to normalise relations with Thailand through peaceful means—whether through bilateral mechanisms or international judicial frameworks,” he concluded.
