Cambodia, Timor-Leste Strengthen Parliamentary Ties Ahead of AIPA Caucus

H.E. Leng Peng Long, Secretary-General of the National Assembly of Cambodia, held a working meeting with H.E. Ermenegildo Kupa Lopes, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Cambodia, at the National Assembly Palace here on June 23.
During the meeting, H.E. Leng Peng Long highlighted that the Cambodian Parliament is preparing to host the 16th AIPA Caucus under the theme “Peace through Dialogue: The Parliamentary Path Forward,” which will take place from July 14 to 17, 2025 in Phnom Penh.
The Ambassador noted that H.E. Madam Maria Fernanda Lay, President of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, plans to pay an official visit to Cambodia in early July. The visit will precede Timor-Leste’s participation in the AIPA Caucus as an observer, in line with its aspiration to become a full member of ASEAN.
The two sides discussed the detailed arrangements for H.E. Maria Fernanda Lay’s official visit, including a courtesy call on Cambodia’s top leadership and a bilateral meeting with Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
These engagements are intended to further promote friendship, solidarity, and strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed Cambodia’s strong support for Timor-Leste’s full membership in ASEAN, a consistent position upheld by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia.
H.E. Ermenegildo Kupa Lopes expressed his sincere appreciation to Cambodia, particularly to Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, for his unwavering support and long-standing commitment to Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to further developing and deepening the bonds of friendship and parliamentary cooperation between Cambodia and Timor-Leste.
