Senate President Receives Newly Appointed Bangladeshi Ambassador
AKP Phnom Penh, June 19, 2025--
Cambodian Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received H.E. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, the newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh to Cambodia, during a courtesy meeting held this morning at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh.
According to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith, Ambassador Kazi sought Cambodia’s support on two key matters: the promotion of bilateral trade and investment between both countries, and Bangladesh’s desire to become a dialogue partner of ASEAN, citing its geographic proximity to Myanmar and its intention to work with ASEAN on resolving the Myanmar crisis.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed the ambassador and expressed support for Bangladesh’s aspiration to become a cross-sectoral partner of ASEAN. He noted that this move would help strengthen Bangladesh’s engagement with ASEAN in economic, trade, and other important areas—particularly regarding the situation in Myanmar.
The Senate President also voiced his strong support for enhancing trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Cambodia and Bangladesh, stressing that economic ties are at the core of the bilateral relationship.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen further encouraged Bangladesh to consider joining the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), noting that RCEP is open to new members and that Bangladesh, as a close neighbour of Southeast Asia, would benefit from becoming part of the regional trade pact.
On this occasion, he also informed the ambassador of the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand border tensions, and called on the Bangladeshi government to support Cambodia’s peaceful stance—particularly its decision to bring the issue before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for resolution.
