China Backs Mine Action in Cambodia with New Project
AKP Phnom Penh, June 17, 2025 --
China-financed Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Project on Mine Action in Cambodia launched on June 17 will directly benefit 723 families with mine-free land and 55,111 families in targeted areas with safety and development opportunities.
Senior Minister H.E. Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), chaired an official event at the CMAA headquarters to launch the project, under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund.
Addressing the function, the Senior Minister emphasised that Cambodia-China cooperation in mine action is not only about mine clearance and humanitarian work but also a pathway for a future of shared prosperity, peace, and lasting friendship between the two countries and peoples.
According to H.E. Ly Thuch, the project aims to transform Cambodia’s land contaminated by explosive ordnance into safe land for livelihood development.
It also promotes the exchange of skills, knowledge, and technical experience among countries affected by explosive ordnance, especially those in the Mekong-Lancang region, he added.
