Tourism Ministry and Malaysian Embassy Discuss Strengthening Tourism Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, June 17, 2025 --
H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, held a working dinner with H.E. Shaharuddin Bin Onn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Cambodia, on June 16 to discuss enhancing bilateral tourism cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged constructive ideas on ways to boost Cambodia-Malaysia tourism growth, including the organisation of new and attractive tourism exhibitions in both nations.
Discussions also focused on diversifying tourism events during Cambodia’s scenic Green Season, with the goal of promoting the Green Season campaign to the Malaysian public. Plans were also proposed to produce a promotional video to showcase Cambodia’s tourism potential and investment opportunities to Malaysian tourists and business communities.
Both sides welcomed the recent launch of the first new direct flight between Phnom Penh and Penang, Malaysia’s second-largest and busiest airport, calling it a positive step toward enhancing connectivity and tourism flows.
Ambassador Shaharuddin highlighted the strong and fruitful cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia, which he attributed to the wise and visionary leadership of former Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his successor, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
He noted that their leadership has fostered Cambodia’s development across various sectors and helped strengthen and expand diplomatic relations—particularly in people-to-people exchanges and tourism.
