Cambodian-Thai Border Remains Open Despite Speculation of Closures
AKP Phnom Penh, June 02, 2025 --
As of June 2, all Cambodian-Thai border crossings and checkpoints remain open, despite some speculation about potential closure, meanwhile, Cambodians living along the border rationally expressed opposition to any such action.
AKP confirmed the update following its investigation into claims from some sources saying that Thailand planned to unilaterally shut down the border crossings and checkpoints.
The speculation was circulated after a recent incident wherein Thai forces illegally opened fire on a Cambodian trench, causing the tragic death of a Cambodian soldier.
There are six main border crossings and ten checkpoints between Cambodia and Thailand, and all are operating under normal conditions.
Cambodian residents residing in those areas shared their view that these entry points should be kept open to sustain cross-border trade and tourism that benefit both sides.
