Cambodia, Thailand Deepen Parliamentary Cooperation and People-Centred Ties for Mutual Benefit

Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly (NA), received a courtesy call from H.E. Nattacha Boonchaiinsawat, Member of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand and Chairman of the Thailand–Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the NA Palace this afternoon.
The meeting took place during the official visit of the Thai parliamentary delegation to Cambodia from May 25 to 27, 2025, aimed at advancing parliamentary cooperation and people-to-people connection, according to the Cambodian NA’s news release.
During the courtesy meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary warmly welcomed the visit and regarded it as a reflection of the strong and growing relations between the two national assemblies, in line with the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parliaments’ leadership in 2024.
She underscored that these exchange visits play a vital role in strengthening traditional friendship and deepening the strategic partnership for the benefit of both peoples.
Samdech emphasised that Cambodia and Thailand, as neighbouring countries, continue to foster close cooperation despite global and regional complications and uncertainties. Political trust and mutual understanding remain crucial in building long-lasting ties.
She noted that both legislative and executive branches at various levels have engaged in frequent visits and sincere dialogue to promote mutual respect, mutual understanding for the mutual benefits of the peoples of two countries.
Samdech recalled the recent celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, marked by the signing of seven new cooperation agreements between Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodian Prime Minister, and H.E. Mrs. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thai Prime Minister, alongside the inauguration of a commemorative monument in Phnom Penh.
The anniversary also celebrated several events such as a friendly football match and the “Two Kingdoms Run” across the Cambodia–Thailand Friendship Bridge, to strengthening solidarity and people-to-people connectivity.
H.E. Nattacha Boonchaiinsawat expressed sincere appreciation to Samdech for the warm reception and conveyed greetings from the Speaker of the Thai NA. He stated that the visit aimed to further consolidate cooperation between the two legislative bodies.
He emphasised that strong parliamentary collaboration has effectively responded to the needs of both nations. He also briefed Samdech on his earlier meeting with Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Chairman of the Cambodia–Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group, where both sides committed to enhancing regular communication and expanding collaboration mechanisms.
The two sides exchanged views on promoting cooperation in trade, education, tourism, and economic development. Samdech also highlighted that Thailand currently ranks as Cambodia’s fifth-largest investor, with both governments committed to boosting bilateral trade to US$ 15 billion by 2027.
On tourism, both sides reaffirmed support for the “Two Countries, One Destination” and “Six Countries, One Destination” initiatives, aimed at boosting regional tourism connectivity.
Samdech expressed appreciation to the Thai Government and Royal Family for their longstanding support in providing scholarships for Cambodian students. She affirmed that under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and now Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia remains committed to placing human capital development at the centre of its national strategy, with goals to realise upper-middle-income status by 2030 and high-income status by 2050.
