Samdech Khuon Sudary: Strengthening Parliamentary Diplomacy to Address Global Issues

Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, granted a courtesy call to Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC), here on May 23 at the National Assembly Palace.
Samdech Khuon Sudary warmly welcomed Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal and his delegation, recognised him as a long-time friend of Cambodia, a witness to Cambodia's national elections, and an important bridge connecting Cambodia with the international community.
Samdech expressed thanks for the warm hospitality extended to the high-level Cambodian parliamentary delegation during the recent UPF Summit 2025 and the ISC Conference held in Seoul last April, which brought together speakers, politicians, and dignitaries from the region and around the world.
Samdech congratulated him on his appointment as ISC Secretary-General and expressed confidence that ISC will thrive under his leadership, particularly in promoting parliamentary for peace, sustainability, and inclusivity.
Samdech expressed strong confidence in the future of the ISC, particularly with the appointment of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Father of Peace, as a Founding Member.
She emphasised that Samdech Techo’s leadership would enhance the role of ISC in promoting peace and shared prosperity.
Samdech Khuon Sudary underlined that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, is respected by regional leaders for his leadership and significant achievements in not only liberating Cambodia but also reuniting and rebuilding a post-conflict country.
Samdech underscored the relevance of the 'Ten Pillars of Peace Theory’ of Samdech Techo and the Universal Peace Charter initiated by Samdech Techo.
“Peace is essential for strengthening living conditions and harmony,” she said.
“Without peace, development cannot occur, as peace and development are intertwined, like two knots bound together,” she added
For his part, Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal thanked Samdech for warmly receiving him, acknowledging the deep friendship and respect between Cambodia and ISC.
He noted that ISC is delighted to receive Samdech Khuon Sudary as one of the two most distinguished guests at the events, emphasising the strong foundation built between the two parties.
Hon. Dhakal informed Samdech Khuon Sudary that during his recent meeting with Samdech Techo, he presented him with an ISC Founding Member pin and highlighted Samdech Techo's key guidance in strengthening ISC by expanding cooperation and increasing membership, while ensuring impartiality and fairness.
Samdech Techo believed Cambodia would strengthen ties between ISC and AIPA, expanding cooperation with more countries as Cambodia serves as AIPA Secretary-General from September 2025.
Samdech encouraged building strong cooperation among AIPA Parliament Members and emphasised action-oriented, result-driven cooperation. It is important to measure impact based on which we can generate greater impact for the society.
Samdech said that family value and harmony is the foundation of a strong nation, stating that by strengthening the family unit, a nation’s foundation becomes strong and resilient, ensuring stability and growth.
