Cambodian Leaders Extend Condolences over Loss of Two Peacekeepers
AKP Phnom Penh, May 15, 2025 --
Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, National Assembly President Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet have extended their deepest condolences following the deaths of two Cambodian peacekeepers during a mission in South Sudan.
A gunfire occurred on May 13, 2025, at 15:50 local time (20:50 in Cambodia) in the city of Malakal, where troops from the Royal Gendarmerie of Cambodia are stationed. The incident claimed the lives of two soldiers from Royal Gendarmerie Squadron Unit 872 – Miss Doung Magaly and Mr. Phat Mony.
“This is a tragic loss of great soldiers who served with strong will and conscience in the name of the Nation, Religion, and King. They courageously volunteered to uphold peace under the UN flag, ultimately sacrificing their lives,” the leaders wrote in separate condolence messages to the families of the fallen soldiers.
On behalf of the Ministry of National Defence and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha also expressed his deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the loss of the two blue beret troops.
The leaders prayed for the souls of Miss Doung Magaly and Mr. Phat Mony to rest in peace.
