Cambodia Temporarily Bans Livestock and Meat Imports from Thailand
AKP Phnom Penh, May 07, 2025 --
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has announced a temporary ban on the import of livestock and meat products from all border crossings with Thailand, despite no current cases of anthrax being detected in Cambodia.
The move follows reports of a fatal anthrax outbreak affecting livestock in several regions of Thailand, according to a press release issued by the MAFF this morning.
The ministry underlined that it is closely monitoring the situation involving outbreaks of anthrax in Thai livestock. Although Cambodia remains free of the disease, the ban is being enforced as a precautionary measure.
In coordination with relevant authorities, the MAFF is enhancing inspection procedures at all border checkpoints to ensure the effective implementation of the ban.
Additionally, the General Directorate of Animal Health and Production has established a rapid response network in all the 25 provinces and capital to monitor livestock health and responding swiftly to any suspicious cases.
