Cambodia, Laos Supreme Courts to Enhance Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, May 05, 2025 -- Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from visiting H.E. Ms. Viengthong Siphandone, President of the Supreme People's Court of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, at the Peace Palace this afternoon.
According to the Spokesperson for Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister, during the meeting, H.E. Ms. Viengthong Siphandone told the Premier of her visit to Cambodia, the main purpose of which is to strengthen and broaden the relationship and cooperation between the supreme courts of both nations, thereby further deepening the bonds of friendship between them.
With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Judicial Cooperation scheduled for tomorrow, she added, the two supreme judicial institutions will exchange experiences and information, collaborate in combating transnational crimes, including human trafficking, illegal drug trafficking, and online scams, and continue their cooperation in international forums.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his satisfaction with the strong relations between the two neighbouring countries, upgraded to the level of a “Comprehensive and Long-term Strategic Partnership” in 2019.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the strong bond of friendship between the two countries is a legacy passed down by previous generations of leaders, and that the Royal Government of Cambodia of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly will continue to deepen this relationship. He also highlighted the steady progress of Cambodia-Laos cooperation in various sectors, particularly in national defence, security, energy, and trade.
Samdech Thipadei highly appreciated the progress in cooperation between the Supreme Courts of the two countries, underscoring that this growing partnership will significantly contribute to law enforcement efforts to combat and thwart cross-border crimes, including cybercrime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
Moreover, he expressed support for and encouraged the judicial institutions of both countries to further strengthen and broaden their cooperation and relations at all levels.
