Give Blood, Save Lives Kicked Off in Siem Reap to Increase Donation
AKP Phnom Penh, April 25, 2025 --
Cambodia expands its blood donation campaign to Siem Reap province, as the country needs around 180,000 units (approximately 450 ml) of blood annually.
Director of the National Blood Transfusion Centre Cambodia (NBTC) Dr. Sok Po and Siem Reap Deputy Provincial Governor Mr. Neak Neron chaired the launch of the Give Blood, Save Lives campaign on April 24 at Siem Reap provincial city.
Addressing the function, Dr. Sok Po underscored that Cambodia has the demand for one unit of blood every five minutes, or around 180,000 units every year.
Phnom Penh alone needs up to 350 units of blood every day, he said, calling on the public to continue donating blood that will eventually save lives.
Donating blood also benefits donors because they will be updated on their health status, including symptoms of hepatitis B, syphilis, and AIDS, and can reduce the risk of having cancer and high blood pressure, excessive iron in their blood, and weight gain, he added.
Mr. Neak Neron echoed the call, stressing that donating blood is an expression of love, a good deed, and compassion.
He strongly supported the campaign that unifies people from all walks of life, including the public and private sectors, for humanitarian acts.
