Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment for Road Safety
AKP Phnom Penh, February 19, 2025 --
The Royal Government of Cambodia has made three commitments to strengthen road safety in the country.
The confirmation was highlighted by H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, at the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety taking place in Marrakech, Morocco from Feb. 18 to 20.
The commitments include the establishment by 2027 of safe zones at schools to protect children and youth from road accidents in accordance with the guidelines on safe zones at schools.
Moreover, by 2030, Cambodia is committed to implementing additional core road-safety-related legal instruments; and to reducing by at least 50 percent the number of injuries and deaths from road accidents caused by over speeding.
The commitment is a new agenda for the conference that all the governments of participating countries, international organisations, civil society groups, foundations, and private companies have the opportunity to make their commitments to achieve the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 to prevent at least 50 percent of road traffic injuries and deaths by 2030.
