Senate to Continue Contributions to Socio-Economic Development

Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has reaffirmed that he will further meet with the private sector in order to contribute with the Royal Government in the country’s social and economic development, even though he is not a government leader.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the commitment when he received a courtesy call from Mr. Eddy Pirard, President and CEO of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) at the Senate Palace here this morning.
In the meeting, Mr. Eddy Pirard briefed the Senate President on JTI’s background and its investment activities in Cambodia.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated JTI on its success in Cambodia, and highly valued the company for being a model company of fiscal compliance and a member of the best businessmen community, as well as for its participation in green and sustainable development and climate change prevention.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also shared the evolution of Cambodian policy on tobacco control when he was prime minister, and asked JTI to explore the possibility to diversify its production into other sectors, such as pharmaceutical and food processing industries.
