Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra emphasised the commitment at the opening ceremony of the three-day annual meeting of the Ministry of Information, held here this morning in physical and virtual format with the participation of some 700 people.
“Voice cloning, as well as other fake news tools need us to double our efforts to challenge the issues,” he underlined in his opening speech.
H.E. Neth Pheaktra encouraged all media practitioners, information ministry’s officials and spokespersons of different ministries and institutions, and provincial and municipal administrations to work together in a pro-active manner to fight against fake news.
In 2024, there were more than 1,600 traditional and new media institutions in Cambodia, and social media has been dramatically booming.
“Just for TikTok and Facebook, there are over 25 million accounts in Cambodia and each of them can act as a media outlet,” he said, calling for attention to ensuring access to information with quality and professionalism.
At the same time, H.E. Neth Pheaktra urged provincial and municipal information officers to be more pro-active in their work in managing information and public opinion affairs.
